TRAVELING SHOES

Short Film (trailer)

In the 1930’s, the US government sent teams of cultural anthropologists to the rural corners of America to capture the rich history of national folk music that was being lost with increasing urbanization. One of these recordings was of Vera Hall Ward, a young gospel singer from Livingston, Alabama who showed up at her local church to perform into a primitive mobile recording console.

This short-film is a retelling of the spiritual she sung that day in a crime noir style - the story of a mysterious man visiting those who have sinned and delivering them their judgment until he knocks on the wrong door. The film is scored by Lisa Fischer, legendary vocalist who when not performing with The Rolling Stones, Sting and other music royalty is being featured in the Oscar-award winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom.
